A thought for 2022
A few days ago, I received my COVID19 vaccine booster shot.
In 2021, there was hardly any more controversial topic than coronavirus vaccinations. The related polarization is another example of a trend towards more extreme positions in Western societies. While most are aware of this and even understand its dangers, much fewer actively engage in counteracting this trend. For that, it is necessary to be open to the opinions of others even if they oppose ours and to take the effort to understand underlying emotions and feelings.
Society is a sum of many individuals and only functions in harmony when a majority actively contributes to its well-being by respecting those different from oneself.
For me, 2022 will be even more about going the extra mile to make sure I understand opposing views in detail before I judge them, even if it can be frustrating at times.
Challenge yourself to do the same! It is in all our interests.
